When custom actually makes sense
Off-the-shelf tools cover the common problems well, and if one genuinely solves yours we will say so on the discovery call rather than quote you a build you do not need. Custom work is for businesses whose processes have moved past what configuration of a packaged tool can handle.
Custom makes sense when one of three things is true:
- Your process is genuinely unusual and configuration of an existing tool will not cover it.
- You need integration between systems that do not natively talk to each other.
- You have hit the ceiling of what an existing tool can do, usually around scale, custom workflows, or reporting.
If your problem is one of these, custom is often cheaper in the long run than wrestling with a tool that almost-but-not-quite fits.
